PAUL T. CALLAHAN, USN (RET)
Date : Thu, 14 Nov 2002 08:20:20 EST

Hello Sam,

I learned today that a CL-82 shipmate, Chief Gunner's Mate Paul Thomas
Callahan, USN (Ret), died this morning (13 November) from respiratory
complications stemming from heart surgery. He was the Fourth Division Chief
Gunner's Mate during the period 1947-1948. A native of Atlantic City, NJ,
he was an outstanding high school athlete, leading the ice hockey team to
the state championship in 1939. He enlisted in the Navy in 1939 and served
in the heavy cruiser MINNEAPOLIS through World War II. After retirement in
1959, he settled in southern California. His wife, Tess, predeceased him.
Among his survivors is LT Shannon Callahan, a graduate of the Naval Academy
and a radar-navigation flight officer currently serving aboard a carrier in
the Middle East.

All the best - Al Olsen
