HI SAM,
I'M REALLY SAD TO REPORT WE HAVE RECENTLY LOST TWO CL82 PLANK OWNERS AND SUPER INTELLIGENT SHIPMATES.
REX TURNER FIRE CONTROLMAN 1ST CLASS: WE MET AS ATTENDING ADVANCED FIRE CONTROL SCHOOL, WASHINGTON DC. IN THE FALL AND WINTER OF 1944. HE WAS BRILLIANT ON OUR SHIPS QUAD 40MM'S FIRE CONTROL SYSTEMS. IF I RECALL HE LEFT CL82 ON POINTS IN DEC. OR JAN. 1946, WE WENT ON LIBERTY TOGETHER MANY TIMES, SICILY AND ITALY. WE GOT TO GO TO ROME ON A 3 DAY R&R. WE HAVE CORRESPONDED FOR 64 YEARS.
HE ATTENDED OUR SAN DIEGO REUNION. REX DIED APRIL 22 FROM MELANOMA. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE INGRID OF ROBINDALE, MN.
